Evaluation

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
In general I have definitely developed a lot of skills throughout the module and applied them effectively whilst producing my work. I have learnt in depth about the 6 colour processes being monotone, duotone, greyscale, spot colour, RGB and CMYK and found their uses and limitations in the print industry so when I come to producing further work I will be more critical and knowledgeable about colours on screen and colours to send to print so that I will not be disappointed with the results. I have also learnt about the different print processes that are available and how to associate them appropriately to the work that I am producing thinking about what is more cost effective.
My memory has been refreshed in how to screen print and use letterpress, which will help my designs in the future and I have become more familiar with Indesign in as such finding out short cuts and discovering how useful it is for typography.
Overall I think the presentation and professionalism of my work has improved and I think that I am more critical and committed to the work that I am producing.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I have produced primary and secondary research and also thought about qualitive and quantitive research so that I can really cover all aspects of the area in which I chose. I made sure that I accumulated a lot of research right at the start of the project, which helped develop my designs. Producing effective questionnaires also helped me as I directed them to things that I wanted help on for instance getting descriptive words to describe my Pick ‘n’ Mix sweets. Talking to people about my designs also helped me alot this time...I got alot of feedback and advice off other people which really inspired me and helped my work develop.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I think that I have definitely become more committed to my work and have definitely become more professional in the way in which my work is produced; I am researching more finding out new ways to produce things instead of just staying in my comfort zone. I have learnt to not be too protective over my work and learn to listen to people’s opinion and change designs where and when needed for example it became apparent that the name of my calendar needed changing because it wasn’t appropriate.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
Well the first weakness that springs to mind is not looking over my work properly before sending it to print, I quite often make mistakes and end up having to re print and If I was going to be doing a job for a client I can not afford to be making these little errors. Also I think I still need to make sure that I crasp my concept straight away or very quickly so that my projects can more on efficiently otherwise I feel like I get stuck and can not explain my ideas properly and also my time management towards the start of the ‘good’ brief wasn’t good but I managed to turn it around.
I also didn't know about missing links in Indesign and when I came to print my colour4print alot of the files couldnt be found which effected the end results and semiotics of my DPS's.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

5 things that I will do differently next time:
1. I would like to have produced an advent calendar to go towards my final products but I didn’t feel I had enough time to produce it to the quality that I wanted.
2. I would make sure that I spent more time finalising my concept before I start developing my ideas otherwise I come to a dead end and fall behind.
3. I would print off my august month again and make sure that I added the numbers to the month, which again refers back to the fact that I need to pay more attention before I send things to print.
4. I would make sure that I did further experimentation into my colour 4 print brief as I don’t think that I explored it to my full potential.
5. I would look into my t-shirt designs and further develop them changing them to maybe two colour designs which would make it easier to make a screen print for my t-shirt as the one that I produced was a full colour design which made it very hard for me to make a screen print and it would be very expensive to produce.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
